Chancery Lane Urban Design Strategy

The Chancery Lane Association commissioned Burns + Nice to undertake a study to evaluate Chancery Lane and the surrounding area and identify a long-term strategy to promote and improve its amenity, function, convenience and ambience.

The primary study area falls within the City of London, the London Borough of Camden and the City of Westminster. The site has Conservation Area status within all of these Authorities and many of the buildings in the area have been listed by English Heritage.

The area evaluation process included assessing historic and heritage value; potential land use conflicts; the impact of traffic on the area; pedestrian movement, open spaces and connectivity.

The Urban Design Strategy has identified over twenty six projects that would have a significant impact on the regeneration of the area through widening pavements and improving paving materials, signage, lighting and traffic management.
