Leicester Square Concept Design
In 2007 B U R N S + N I C E were the winners of a design competition for the redesign of Leicester Square and its nine connector streets in the heart of London's West End.
Leicester Square is a significant London destination. It is considered the home of British cinema and is the venue for many film premieres and special events.
B U R N S + N I C E have developed a concept design that re-establishes Leicester Square within London by creating a City Block as part of a sequence of urban events that gives legibility and meaning to the area. The intrinsic English landscape qualities of the Gardens have been retained and create the focal point of the scheme.
The new lighting design prepared in collaboration with dpa Lighting Consultants reinforces the sense of place, extends and enhances the uses of the Gardens, the Square and the Connector Streets.
