Pool of London Public Realm Strategy

An appointment by the Pool of London Partnership to address issues relating to the public realm on the north side of the River Thames within the Pool of London, one of London's major tourist destinations. The area is undergoing considerable change with environmental improvements planned at the Monument, Riverside Walkway, Tower Gateway and around the Tower of London.

Unfortunately large roads, lack of lighting and other physical constraints continue to act as major barriers to walking in the area severing residential and business communities on the river and City fringe. The public realm strategy identified and prioritised opportunities for further improvements to create a public spaces framework, design guidelines and an action plan and implementation strategy to establish an overall vision for the public realm within the Pool of London.

A series of projects to be undertaken between 2003 to 2007 was identified to create the vision and meet the aspirations of the local communities and businesses.
