Guildford Tunsgate improvement works underway

Work to improve Guildford’s Tunsgate started in July. The project will deliver the public realm enhancements that will create a more pedestrian friendly environment.

The design will improve routes between High Street and the Castle, improve the approach to Guildford Castle, blend the Tunsgate re-development into the wider public realm proposals for the area and improve the setting of the many surrounding listed buildings and adjoining Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The scheme is based on the Guildford Town Centre Streetscape Design Guide prepared earlier by Burns + Nice which sets out the overarching approaches for Guildford’s streets and spaces to support a vibrant, well designed and legible town centre. The Design Guide also delivers a set of standard details for streetscape elements such as paving, kerbs, street furniture and wayfinding that will over time deliver a coordinated streetscape design approach for the different town quarters and neighbourhoods that make up the town centre.
