Ilford is a designated Housing Zone and has significant growth capacity with potential for up to 6000 new homes as well as retail, hospitality and leisure uses and the completion of the Elizabeth Line at Ilford Station by 2020 will unlock its development potential. Ilford will provide a sustainable and liveable urban centre, comprising high-density developments of outstanding architectural quality, supported by a network of strong streets and public spaces.
Burns + Nice were appointed as lead consultant to deliver the design and implementation of the town centre public realm over a three year programme. Following extensive stakeholder and public consultation the detailed public realm proposals including new paving, lighting, street furniture and tree planting were approved by Redbridge Council in late 2016. Phase 1 of the scheme is currently being implemented with completion due early in 2018.
