Public realm improvements for Tunsgate to create a more pedestrian friendly environment.

The design for Tunsgate is based on the Guildford Town Centre Streetscape Design Guide prepared by Burns + Nice in 2016 which sets out the overarching design approach for Guildford’s streets and spaces to support a vibrant, well designed and legible town centre.

The Design Guide also delivers a set of standard details for streetscape elements such as paving, kerbs, street furniture and wayfinding that will over time deliver a co-ordinated design approach for the different town quarters and neighbourhoods that make up the town centre.

The Tunsgate design will improve routes between High Street and Castle, improve the approach to Guildford Castle, integrate the Tunsgate re-development with the wider public realm proposals for the area and improve the setting for the many surrounding listed buildings and adjoining Scheduled Ancient Monument. Work to Tunsgate started on site in July 2017 and will be completed in 2018.
